Shifting Stones: Redefining Adulting for ADHD & Autistic Teens in Transition

About this course:

The path to adulthood isn't a straight road, it's a rocky terrain that looks different for every neurodivergent teen. Together we will examine the surge in executive functioning demands that comes with transitional-age life and what clinicians can do to help clients meet this moment. From implementing practical accommodations to dismantling neuronormative myths about what growing up "should" look like, this session offers tools and perspective to support teens as they find their footing.

Participants will be able to…

  • Identify at least three ways executive functioning demands increase during the transition from adolescence to young adulthood and explain how these shifts uniquely impact Autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD clients.

  • Apply a minimum of two neuroaffirming accommodation strategies to support neurodivergent young adults in managing transitional-age responsibilities within clinical and real-world contexts.

  • Examine and challenge neuronormative assumptions about adulthood milestones, reframing clinical goals to honor the diverse timelines and strengths of neurodivergent young adults.
